Ugandan singer and Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) President Cindy Sanyu is speaking out in support of Bobi Wine and is urging the government to lift the concert ban preventing him from performing. Cindy’s comments come against a backdrop of years of controversy and legal battles, where Bobi Wine’s shows were repeatedly canceled or disrupted. Despite a court victory in 2020 declaring some of the bans unlawful, Bobi has never returned to full concert performance, and attempts to host shows have often been met with resistance from authorities.
By pushing publicly for Bobi Wine’s return, Cindy is challenging the status quo and shining a spotlight on Uganda’s ongoing battle over artistic expression and political censorship. Whether or not this turns into an official campaign is unclear, but the message is loud: artists should be free to perform without fear, especially when the law says so.
