In a surprising turn of political events, Busiro East MP Medard Ssegona has publicly expressed disappointment after losing the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag ahead of the upcoming elections. Ssegona, a long-time ally of NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, claims he played a key role in bringing the musician-turned-politician into the political arena only to now feel sidelined.
Speaking to local media, Ssegona lamented what he called “political betrayal,” saying he never expected to be abandoned by someone he once supported wholeheartedly. “I was among those who encouraged Bobi Wine to join politics. I believed in his vision, but now he seems to have forgotten those who stood with him from the start,” he said.
Ssegona’s remarks come after NUP announced new flag bearers for several constituencies, leaving out some of its founding members. The MP argued that internal party democracy has been compromised, with loyalty and contribution being overlooked.
“I have no problem with the people, but the way decisions are being made in NUP is disappointing. It’s like friendship no longer counts,” Ssegona added.
Party insiders, however, have dismissed Ssegona’s claims, saying the selection process was transparent and based on merit. NUP spokespersons maintain that the party remains committed to fairness and unity as it prepares for the next general election.
Despite the setback, Ssegona hinted that he is not ready to bow out of politics, promising to “keep serving the people” — with or without the party flag.
