Eddy Kenzo Reassures Artists on Upcoming Copyright Law Changes

By Hassan – Scoopbuzz updates

Ugandan music star and Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) boss Eddy Kenzo says upcoming changes to the copyright law will benefit all creatives, not just top artists. He reiterated that the revised copyright and neighboring rights bill has cabinet approval and is headed to Parliament, with plans already underway to implement a fair royalty tracking system.

Kenzo addressed concerns from media houses, explaining that their annual licensing fees would remain reasonable, and assured musicians that every song played would be tracked so they receive fair compensation. However, some industry voices, including celebrated singer Big Eye, have raised concerns about how the system might be implemented without a fully updated law in place.

“This is not just about the big names,” Kenzo stressed. “Every creative, whether upcoming or established, will benefit from this system. For the first time, artists will be able to earn transparently from their work.”

Yet for Kenzo, the vision is clear: a professionalized music industry where talent pays. If Parliament passes the bill smoothly, Uganda could soon witness one of the biggest shake-ups in how artists earn from their craft.
