The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has suspended Salt TV’s popular program “Omusunsuzi” after finding it in violation of national broadcasting standards. The decision follows a review by the regulator, which cited concerns about the show’s content, including alleged offensive and harmful material aired during recent episodes.
According to UCC, the suspension is aimed at protecting the public and ensuring broadcasters adhere to ethical and professional guidelines. The commission emphasized that all media houses are required to maintain programming that aligns with Uganda’s broadcasting code, especially in areas concerning public morality, decency, and cultural sensitivity.
Salt TV has been directed to submit a written explanation and demonstrate measures to prevent future breaches before the program can be reinstated. UCC further warned other broadcasters to uphold the standards to avoid facing similar actions.
The suspension has sparked mixed reactions among viewers and media watchdogs, with some supporting UCC’s move while others argue it limits freedom of expression. As the debate continues, Salt TV has yet to issue an official statement regarding the future of the “Omusunsuzi” show.
