Geoffrey Mwangi, a comedian who speaks Kikuyu and goes by the stage name Kianangi, vanished five years ago. The Kenyan government has been urged to look into his disappearance. Catherine Njeri, his wife, made a request to President William Ruto, Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki, and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to have the Ruiru Police Station order a new review of the file and to make the results public.
On September 21, 2017, at around 10.30am, the 40-year-old Riverwood comedian left his rental home in Kasarani, Nairobi, ostensibly to visit his ailing mother, whom he claimed had called and asked for him.
Due to his funny chemistry with his co-star Macang’i, Mwangi’s popularity increased among the Mt Kenya audience (Ephantus Mbuthia). They had continued to titter the area since 2003.
According to Ms. Njeri, Mr. Mwangi requested a ride from a friend who drove to his house in Gatanga village so he could take his mother to the hospital.
“The two departed, claiming that they would choose yet another friend. I last saw him at that point. For the past five years, she has been looking for him in the hopes of running into him, dead or alive.
She claimed that the friend her husband had departed with was the one who later called to let her know that he had vanished.
At 4 p.m. on the same day, the car he was riding in was discovered abandoned at the Ruiru Bypass roundabout close to Membley Estate. It was described as being “intact, without any strange markings, just parked and abandoned.
It is still unclear how the two became apart and whether they had picked up the third companion by the time he went missing.
